YouV Labs, Inc. ("Shade", "We") designs products ("Sensors") that track ultraviolet (UV) exposure to empower users to better understand how much UV they are exposed to.

Failure to follow these safety instructions could result in injury or damage to the Shade Sensor or other personal property. Read all instructions and safety information before using the Shade Sensor (for more information, visit help.wearshade.com). By using the Shade Sensor, you agree to Shade’s Terms of Service, Shade’s Privacy Policy, and Shade’s Returns and Warranty, and Shade's Copyright Policy (wearshade.com/legal). Only use the Shade Sensor for its intended use, as defined in the Terms of Service.

Follow These Care and Wear Instructions

  • Clean and dry your Shade Sensor regularly, particularly in areas in contact with the skin.
  • Use only a clean, damp cloth to clean your Shade Sensor. Do not wash your Shade Sensor under the faucet.
  • Wear your Sensor on the upper torso, preferably in the same location on each wear.
  • If wearing a hat, ensure that your Shade Sensor is not in its shade.
  • Do not spray perfumes or aerosols on your Shade Sensor.

This device contains electrical equipment that could cause injury if not handled properly

  • Do not open the enclosure or disassemble your Shade Sensor.
  • Do not use your Shade Sensor if the case is cracked.
  • Substances in this product and its battery may harm the environment or cause injury if handled and disposed of improperly.
  • Do not place your Shade Sensor in a dishwasher, washing machine or dryer.
  • Do not expose your Shade Sensor to extremely high or low temperatures.
  • Do not use your Shade Sensor in a sauna or steam room.
  • Do not dispose of your Shade Sensor in a fire. The battery could explode.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners to clean your Shade Sensor.
  • Charge the battery in accordance with the instructions provided during setup.
  • Charge your Shade Sensor using a computer, powered hub or power supply that is certified by a recognized testing laboratory.
  • Your Shade Sensor features a built-in battery, which is not user replaceable. Tampering with your product, or attempting to open it, will void warranty and can result in a safety hazard.
  • Do not wear your Shade Sensor while charging it.
  • Do not charge your Shade Sensor while it is wet.
  • Remove your Shade Sensor if it feels warm or hot.
  • The Shade Sensor is splash-proof but not water proof. Do not immerse the Sensor into water.

Do not wear or use the sensor if you wear a pacemaker

The Sensor contains a strong magnet which might interfere with pacemakers.

There is no known safe UV exposure limit

When users wish to limit or manage exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, the Sensor is a tool that provides objective measurement and notification when selected UV exposure amounts are reached. There is no known safe UV exposure limit and staying below a selected limit does not guarantee freedom from adverse health consequences. Consult your doctor on managing your exposure to UV radiation. The Sensor is not a medical device and it does not diagnose or treat any disease or condition. If you experience a medical emergency, stop using the Sensor and consult with a medical professional.

  • Consult your doctor before modifying your behavior regarding exposure to ultraviolet radiation or sunlight.
  • Consult your doctor before use if you have any preexisting conditions that might be affected by your use of this Shade product.
  • Do not check app notifications or other data while driving or in other situations where distractions could be hazardous.
  • This product is not a toy. Do not allow children or pets to play with your Shade product. The product contains small components that can be a choking hazard.
  • This product is not a medical device, and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

The symbol on the product or its packaging signifies that this product has to be disposed separately from ordinary household wastes at its end of life. Each country in the European Union should have its collection centers for electrical and electronic equipment recycling. For information about your recycling drop off point, please contact your local related electrical and electronic equipment waste management authority or the retailer where you bought the product.

  • Disposal of the packaging and your Shade Sensor should be done in accordance with local regulations.
  • Batteries are not to be disposed of in municipal waste stream and require separate collection.
